In his second epistle, the apostle Peter is reminding his readers of the essentials. He doesn’t have much time left, so he wants to make sure they remember what is really important (1:12–15). Peter says it is important to know Jesus Christ and grow in him. When we know him as God has revealed him (1:16–18), we recognize his power and authority (unlike the false teachers in chapter two), and we strive to build his godly characteristics into our lives (1:3–7). He reminds us, “For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Pet 1:8). Growing in the grace and the knowledge of Jesus Christ (3:18) is to know, follow, and emulate him.
This past month our church added a new member, a single lady who was baptized last year. We witnessed two new believers declaring publicly that they are disciples of Jesus Christ in baptism. Our deacons organized a work day and many brothers and sisters worked together painting, cleaning, and organizing in the building. We continue to grow together in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We had the opportunity to host two nieces from the United States for a week and a half. We enjoyed getting to show them the beautiful spot we live and introducing them to our Chilean brothers and sisters. Hannah writes, “This past month, we were blessed with the opportunity to visit the Perrys in Chile. It was an amazing experience to be able to see another part of the world and meet fellow believers who, although so far away and in such a different place than us, are connected to us through our trust in Jesus. We had so much fun getting to know everyone and making friends with the Christian young people. Despite the barriers in communication and the differences in culture and experiences, we are connected as believers in Jesus and can enjoy that fellowship through Him.”
This coming month we continue to work through the millions of little details for our move to the United States in November. Mark will travel five hours north to Alto Hospicio for a pastors’ meeting. We appreciate your prayers.
