Recently we were watching an interview of an astronomer who had come to Antofagasta to work at the giant telescopes. Clearly blessed with incredible intelligence, she announced that she was “not a spiritual person,” but listening to her expound upon her cobbled-together religion proved that statement false. It was as if she was reading a script straight out of Romans 1: observing the skies made her feel tiny, like an ant, she said. As she was virtually drowning in an ocean of God’s self-revelation, she hoped her work would encourage people to “do better.” The only true hope is the gospel, “for therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith” (Rom 1:17).

We thank God for the opportunity this past month to celebrate our anniversary and take a trip to see the Iguazu Falls in the area where Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay come together. We enjoyed the incredible diversity of animals and plant life, the gorgeous views, and the chance to walk and take pictures.

This past month our church installed their first three deacons/deaconesses, godly servants who already have fruitful ministry among our church people. We were reminded that this is our church’s “Acts 6 moment,” when there are significant needs for servants to oversee and streamline many service opportunities. We look forward to seeing them blossom in their ministry.

This coming month we are looking forward to a quick trip to Santiago for a dentist visit, receiving visitors from the United States, a single mom joining our church membership, and two believers being baptized. We are slowly but steadily working toward closing out our ministry here in Antofagasta and transitioning to serve the Church of the Open Bible in Burlington, MA at the end of this year. We appreciate your prayers.
