The apostle John opens his brief but tender epistle to Gaius with this prayer, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 2). What a remarkable prayer for a Christian brother, wishing that he could be as physically healthy as he is spiritually! Would that we all were so spiritually vigorous, and would that prayer requests for physical illness were accompanied by the same fervent desire for spiritual health.

This past month our city spent two weeks in a different “phase” that lowered the occupancy limits of all buildings significantly, so we went back to the beach for our Lord’s Day meetings. It was windy and cool, but we enjoyed a good time of fellowship singing, praying, and reading Scripture together. Since then, we have been able to return to our building, and this month we had our first in-person Wednesday prayer meeting since March of 2020. Lord willing, in January we will eliminate the Sunday Zoom meeting and just have an in-person service.

Next month, two of our church people will go from being just brother and sister in Christ to husband and wife. This past month, the ladies of the church hosted a wedding shower, a concept not common in Chile. Nati was able to invite her unsaved mother and a couple unsaved friends, and hopefully the love and concern shown by her church family was a testimony to the fact that we have passed from death to life (1 John 3:14). Pray for Victor and Nati as they are married on January 15, that their marriage would be a beautiful reflection of the relationship between Jesus Christ and his church.

This past month Chile held presidential elections, but no single candidate received a majority of votes cast, so there will be a runoff election with the top two vote-getters this coming Lord’s Day. Please pray for Chile, and more than anything, pray that God’s Word will surge ahead and be glorified, and that we will be protected from wicked and unreasonable people (2 Thess 3:1–2).

We believe we have everything in order for our trip to the States December 20 through January 13. Lord willing, we will spend time with both of our families and then a week at the GMSA missionary conference in Florida. Please pray that God would smooth our way and make his will clear at every step. As always, please continue to pray for the resolution of our permanent visas.

Please pray with us for the spiritual health of our brothers and sisters in Christ of the Iglesia Berea of Antofagasta.
