“Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: for so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:10–11). Peter, in his second epistle and with his own homegoing in view, wants to encourage his readers to know and follow Jesus Christ (1:12–15). He lists qualities that should be present and increasing in a believer’s life (1:5–7). Growth in grace will produce assurance of our election and provide a rich entrance into Jesus’ eternal kingdom, so we should “make every effort” (1:5) and “be all the more diligent” (1:10) about our growth.

This past month our church installed Adrián as our first elder from the congregation and officially added him to leadership team of David, Andrés, and me. He is a man who is quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger (Jas 1:19), which demonstrates the wisdom of maturity that an elder should embody (1 Tim 3:2–3). Please pray for him to grow in grace and knowledge.

This past month the Gospel Mission of South America sponsored a two-day online conference for the pastors and missionaries from Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay hosted by several professors from Bob Jones University. It was a profitable  time of growth in grace and knowledge on the topic of preparing the next generation of leaders.

This past month we were able to purchase flights to make a trip to the United States December 20 through January 13 to attend the GMSA missionary conference in Florida. Now we’ll have to wait and see what changes the next two months bring as far as travel requirements. Please pray that it will be another opportunity to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We’re still awaiting an update on our visas, so please continue to pray for the resolution of our permanent visas. We had hoped to have an update, this month, but there has been no change.

We talk a lot as a couple about what it’s like living in a second culture, because it occupies a lot of our time and energy. We have decided it’s like not being subscribed to an email update that everybody else gets, so you never know the totally obvious things that everyone else does. You’re literally never “in the know.” It’s sometimes frustrating, but a small price to pay for the sake of the Name. We appreciate your continued prayers for us.

It was a joyous moment to officially ordain Adrián (right) to the office of elder to serve in the leadership of our church.

  • Thank God with us for his grace in receiving helpful teaching of the Word.
  • Thank God with us for his grace in installing another elder for our church.
  • Thank God with us for his grace in patient wisdom.
  • Pray to God with us for his grace in the growth of his church in Antofagasta.
  • Pray to God with us for his grace in preparing to travel next month.
  • Pray to God with us for his grace for his grace in the waiting process for our residency documents.
