In 2 Corinthians 1, the apostle Paul speaks frankly and honestly to the Corinthian church about his sufferings, asking for their prayer. He reminds them that God was the one who delivered him, but he adds, “Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf” (2 Cor 1:11). This way, they will partner with him, not only in praying for him in suffering, but glorifying God for his provision and deliverance. This concept is foundational to all the emails we have written over the past ten years. We want to share the struggles and the blessings with you so that you can share with us in thanking God for his marvelous answers to prayer.
This past month our church family had a day at a park—just a Saturday afternoon together, playing games, talking, a short devotional, and (of course) sharing some yummy food. It was a great opportunity to talk with many newer attenders. We also had the opportunity to have Joe and Kristina in our home, believers from Arizona. Joe is in Antofagasta working, and they lived here and were a part of the church almost ten years ago. We enjoyed their fellowship and company. We also had the opportunity to spend a long weekend in Florida for the wedding of good friends. Hot Florida weather was a big change from almost-winter Antofagasta weather! We spent a few days at our mission headquarters, where our home office coworkers ministered to us and were a great blessing by their hospitality. We were able to encourage some of the mission’s newest missionaries by teaching a section of the candidate school via Zoom.
This coming month we continue our Bible studies with several couples and individuals in our church. Our church is considering four deacon candidates and will vote to install them on July 13. Lord willing, we are traveling to the south of Chile for a weekend where Mark will speak at a pastors’ meeting. From there we will travel all the way to the northernmost city of Chile, Arica, for our annual GMSA missionaries mid-year meeting. We share these requests with you and ask you to help us by prayer.
