The psalmist reminds us, “Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them” (Psalm 89:9). From time to time, we experience significant waves along the Pacific coast called marejadas, bringing higher seas and bigger waves for a few days. They don’t necessarily affect us, but they do make for good pictures! The pounding ocean waves, as terrifying and powerful as they are, are simply no match for God’s “mighty arm” and his “high right hand” (Ps 89:13).

Summer has taken families away for their vacations, but we’ve seen great attendance for our Sunday services, with several visitors each week. Jesus continues to build his church here, and it thrills our hearts to see the building full of families and singles, believers and unbelievers, young and old. This past month we started studying the book of Philippians together, learning that “unity and fellowship in the gospel produce great joy.” It’s a pleasure not only to read it in the pages of the New Testament, but to see it lived out in the lives of our church members. Our next few Lord’s Days will feature our annual business meeting, a church-wide lunch together, and a baptism service.

This is the picture we had to wait to take for three years, seven months, and eighteen days! Our permanent residency visa “journey” has come to an end. We are thankful for you all who prayed for us unceasingly throughout the process. We praise the Lord we are now officially permanent residents of the Republic of Chile.

The past month has brought some amazing sunrises and sunsets—even more spectacular than usual! The city even received a bit of rain a few weeks ago and some lightning, which is very rare. At our apartment we got just enough sprinkles to splash the dust up and make things really dirty.

We keep busy with our two-week rotation of Bible studies on varied topics: Romans, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, God’s sovereignty and goodness, the biblical teaching about deacons, the doctrine of the Bible, and the personality of God. We appreciate your continued prayers.

We’re thankful for God’s grace in granting us our permanent residency after more than three and a half years of waiting.

  • Thank God with us for his grace in allowing us to receive our Chilean permanent residency!
  • Thank God with us for his grace in the spiritual growth of our church, new visitors, and gospel opportunities.
  • Thank God with us for his grace in life, strength, and health each day.
  • Pray to God with us for his grace in the lives of the believers here.
  • Pray to God with us for his grace in making and teaching disciples of Jesus here in Antofagasta.
  • Pray to God with us for his grace and wisdom in decisions regarding the future of our ministry in Antofagasta and beyond.
