After God confronts Job with his greatness and goodness in creation, Job responds with this affirmation: “I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee” (Job 42:2). Not only is God able to do all things, all his thoughts and plans are carried out perfectly, and no one “can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?” (Dan 4:35). What great comfort it offers to know that God’s perfect will will be carried out and that we can trust him. This really lets the air out of fear, worry, complaining, anger, and manipulation. We can rest in God’s sovereign goodness.
After a series of ups and downs, which are to be expected in the purchase of a property, our church finally signed the buying agreement on Friday afternoon and we hope to receive the keys to the new building next Wednesday. A good deal of cleaning and moving in still remains, but we hope to have our first service in the new building by April. We appreciate your many prayers for our church in this matter, and we want you to rejoice with us.
The first week of March we were able to spend a week in Ohio visiting Mark’s mother, Patti Perry, who is in hospice care. We thank God for his provision and for his protection as we traveled. Amidst all the possibilities and concerns in the world, we are thankful for a good and sovereign God who works everything together for our best possible good—our Christlikeness.
We continue to await word on the progress of our residency applications. This marks nine months since we entered our applications. God is sovereign even over governments and rulers (Ps 75:6–7). Our teammates, the Flincks, are preparing for furlough in May, and Andrés and Cle are expecting their second son in July. We are trusting Jesus to continue building his church here in Antofagasta. God can do all things.
- Thank God with us for his grace in perfectly working all things for our good—making us more like Jesus.
- Thank God with us for his grace in providing our church with a building.
- Thank God with us for his grace in allowing us to visit Mark’s family.
- Pray to God with us for his grace to live in a way that reflects our belief in an all-powerful, sovereign God.
- Pray to God with us for his grace in the ongoing application process for our permanent residency documents.
- Pray to God with us for his grace in the life of Mark’s mother.
