The apostle Paul, speaking of Jesus Christ, says, “Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus” (Col 1:28). It is Jesus Christ who has died and risen again for us, he is the one who is our wisdom and power, and it is the good news of his cross that we proclaim wherever we go. And it is the message of the person and work of Jesus Christ that makes up the basis of our evangelism and discipleship, with the goal of seeing disciples of Christ following him and obeying everything he has commanded us to do.

This past month we enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner with several other North American missionaries, along with many visits with our church families and times together with them, in their homes and ours. We are thankful for their willingness to demonstrate loving patience with us as we try to understand them and make ourselves understood. In all our interactions, we are thankful for the privilege of proclaiming Christ, of sharing the Word of God, and of challenging them (and being challenged by them) to follow Jesus more closely.

Our church continues to look for a more permanent location to meet week by week, but not having our own building has been a great conversation starter to remind us that our fellowship is in Jesus Christ, not in our building or even our shared history. It also enables us to focus all our attention and resources on spiritual growth, not on building or maintaining a physical presence.

This coming month we are experiencing our first summer Christmas, which is nice but a little strange. At the first of the new year we will travel to the south of Chile for our mission’s annual conference and then back to Santiago the following week for the annual Chilean pastors’ convention. We enjoy the travel, but our hearts are still here in Antofagasta. We appreciate your prayers over this past year of our new life here in Chile.

and gave thanks to our great God for all his kindness to us.
Two weeks ago, Bekah and I cleaned the building on Saturday evening for our church service the following morning. I shared this picture with the following caption:

No es la iglesia…pero mañana, el día del Señor, la iglesia sí estará, celebrando su Señor y Salvador, recordando su muerte en la cena, y alabando el nombre de nuestro Rey Jesucristo.

This isn’t the church, but tomorrow on the Lord’s Day, the church will be here, celebrating her Lord and Savior, remembering his death around the Table, and praising the name of our King Jesus Christ.
Our neighbors to the north are sailors manning a naval communications base.
Every so often we are treated to a mini-air show as they fly in some big wig.
  • Thank God with us for his grace that has revealed to us the glory of the person and work of Jesus Christ and then made us ministers of this same glorious gospel.
  • Thank God with us for his grace in allowing us to transfer the car title to our name.
  • Thank God with us for his grace in giving Bekah some relief from shoulder discomfort she has been experiencing.
  • Pray to God with us for his grace to proclaim Christ boldly and accurately in word and deed.
  • Pray to God with us for his grace to perfect and equip our church to be more like Jesus.
  • Pray to God with us for his grace in the next month as we will be traveling and away for several weeks.
