It’s easy to live based on what we see, feel, and experience in the world around us. On that basis, we can easily be afraid, discouraged, or overwhelmed. But because God has saved us and given us the indwelling Holy Spirit as a guarantee, “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor 5:7).

As we look back over the past month, we see how God directed our steps. We traveled to Lima, Perú for two days because we had to leave the country to renew our tourist visas. We enjoyed the chance to see another place where God is working and meet some of God’s servants there. This past week, our team in Antofagasta hosted the GMSA Chile missionaries for a long weekend, with lots of good food, catching up, and encouraging one another in what God is doing. This week we received notification that our temporary residency permits which we submitted February 1 were finally approved and we got our one-year visas stamped into our passports. We thank the Lord for this very obvious answer to prayer.

Day by day, it is easy to slip back into walking by sight and not by faith. As we remind others, God’s Word reminds us to walk by faith and not by sight. Bekah wrote the following simple and very true reminders to a young person asking about missions: “Pursue Christ, know him, and obey him. Make the most of every time you hear God’s Word whether in church or class or personal devotions. Obey his Word. Obedience is as simple as making the next right choice. It’s simple, but not easy. Serve God right now! Adulthood is not the starting line of service to God. God says young people can be an example to the believers.”

We always appreciate your prayers and we are reminded that God works through the prayers of his people. If you have a question about Chile or would like to drop us a line, we’d love to hear from you!

We enjoyed getting to see a little bit of Lima, Perú, an enormous city of about 12 million people.

God answered many prayers we have prayed over the past nine months yesterday
as we got our temporary residency visa stamped into our passports.

 Thank God with us:

  • For his grace in challenging us to live by faith, not feelings.
  • For his grace in protecting and directing us as we traveled to and from Perú and around the city.
  • For his grace in granting the approval of our one-year temporary residency visas. Next steps include identity cards, bank accounts, and driver’s licenses.

Pray to God with us:

  • For his grace to live in a way that glorifies him by living by faith in his Word and not according to our senses.
  • For his grace to speak kind, gentle, truthful words into the lives of our brothers and sisters here. We need grace to hear the same kinds of things from them too.
  • For his grace to work hard at learning Spanish and to humbly keep trying.
