Psalm 92 opens with the statement, “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High.” Giving thanks is always a good thing any time of the year. In fact, it is God’s will that we give thanks for everything (1 Thess 5:18)!
We are very thankful for this past month of ministry as we visited several supporting churches and shared what God is doing in northern Chile. We also thank God for the wonderful celebration of our “fellowship in the gospel” that we enjoyed on November 5 at our sending church, Westerville Bible Church. Over 250 of our family, friends, and supporters joined us for an afternoon of focusing on God’s Word, prayer, and our gospel teamwork. We were happy to be joined by 16 of our supporting pastors, many family members, several GMSA coworkers, and countless others who have encouraged us throughout our lives. This wonderful day was a good gift from God. You can view pictures from the day here. You can even watch the video of the complete service here.
We also thank God for continuing to smooth our way before us as we try to “shut down” our life here in Ohio and move to Chile. We put our house on the market last week, and within one day, we had four showings and accepted an offer for more than our asking price. Lord willing, we will close December 21. Please continue to pray that God will give us grace as we work through the many details of this transition.
It is often easy to complain or worry about the circumstances God has ordained for our lives, but if we believe that God is good and sovereign, those grumblings turn into thanksgiving. We can thank God for putting us in the perfect situation which he has omnisciently planned and lovingly executed. We can thank God for the opportunities to glorify him in that situation by obeying his Word and modeling his Son. We can thank God that he is with us until the end of the age, and his indwelling Spirit guarantees us that God isn’t done with us yet. We can thank God that through us even more thanksgiving can resound to God (2 Cor 9:11)! Giving thanks is always a good thing.
We are thankful not only for our teammates and partners here,
but also as we look ahead to joining our teammates in Antofagasta!
